he and I both have finals this week though, so he might be a little cramed for time (I am)

right now, I’m on a shared server so it’s about $200 per year. back when I was on a dedicated server it was $1200 per year. Both numbers go up if you pay monthly.
However, back when I was running the prosy from a computer in the kitchen, all it cost me was a spare computer and my internet connection. Those were the days man, those were the the days.

ok, the reason it didn’t show your comments right away was that the moderation system only knows to allow through the comments you post with your old info. I had already approved your other info, but not this one. I think if yo went to admin and logged it, then it would start letting you comment and you can change your name to whatever from there.
but yea. that was a lot of traffic

well, most internet plans specify that you can not run a web server so.. they tend to get pissy if they notice that you’re running a web server.
the other problem is that once a proxy gets popular, it starts to kill all of the bandwidth at your house.
I ran one for a while and after a few months, we had to reset the router to even load a single web page some times. In about 6 months it had used like half a terabyte of bandwidth and we ended up killing it before our isp killed us.

oh .. yea.. this is an ollllllld post. currently, the proxy requires someone who has a spare computer and doesn’t mind risking their internet connection. that someone’s not me.
